An Unpopular List of Marketing Trends for 2019
Let me start by saying I hate marketing trends lists.
However, this list compiled by Rand Fishkin is so refreshing. it's justified by a criteria set, and is different enough from the usual drivel to be interesting.
Content
Semantic content optimization with entities
I'm super interested in entities at the moment. The NLP API presents a whole host of opportunities to gain insight into how Google understands the entities in a piece of content. The post by Kevin Indig explores what entities are, before outlining a process for how they can be used for content optimisation.
Tech
What I learned doing SEO with Machine Learning
This is a smart post on making sense of AI in the context of SEO and some lessons learned.
Analyzing Search Engine Results Pages on a Large Scale
Great article by Elias Dabbas on how to use Google's Custom Search Engine to automate a large number of reports with Python, looking at things like the coverage of domains for an index of search queries or comparing pricing in page titles at scale.
Blending log files with other data sources for SEO in Power BI
Power BI is a superb free tool. In this post, Robin Rozhon details how to combine server logs in Power BI with multiple data sources to conduct powerful analysis with no additional investment.
Outreach
5 KPIs for Measuring Outreach and Link Building Efforts
Measuring outreach can be haaaaard. Fortunately, Stella Murphy from Portent has just published a list of data-driven KPIs that help prove success.
Another missed post last week, eeeek I'm slacking! I was too busy nerding out at the Ungagged UK conference in London, listening to an array of fantastic speakers.
I always learn something new at conferences, and often it's the simple things rather than something completely revolutionary. For example, the keynote speaker, Jono Alderson presented three rules of SEO; 'be healthy', 'be creative' and 'be popular'. I thought this was a brilliantly simple way of describing what what we need to do as SEOs to be effective.
In a similar vein, I hope you take one golden nugget from the links below 💡
